1 teaspoon (4 grams) pure vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups (245 grams) all purpose flour
1/4 cup (25 grams) Dutch-processed unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated white sugar
      2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
      1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup (75 grams) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

In a small bowl whisk together the whipping cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder and salt. Using a pastry blender or two knives, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chocolate chunks (chips). Add the cream mixture and stir just until the dough comes together (add more cream and/or flour as necessary).

Gather any scraps together, knead, and then cut out more scones. Brush excess flour from the bottom of the scones, and place them on the baking sheet. Make an egg wash of one well-beaten egg mixed with 1 tablespoon milk and brush the tops of the scones with this mixture.

Bake for about 15 minutes or until they are firm around the edges but a bit soft in the center. A toothpick inserted into the center of a scone will come out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Can serve with clotted cream or softly whipped cream

Question about my daughters 5yr birthday tea party & menu?
Hey everyone!! I'm putting my daughters "Royal High Tea" party together for her and 11 friends (possibly 11 i don't have final count yet)
I am trying to figure out an easy but elegant menu. I bought a cute demitasse complete tea set on ebay and i am going to buy the rest of the stuff this week (disposable plates, etc.). In a normal "high" tea there are several courese. I figure i can do small fruit salad apps, cup of dora the explorer campbells soup, and then tea sandwiches. I will have individual cupcakes as the "cake".
I figure I can use fruit tea as well as have juice for those who don't want tea. Any ideas for the tea sandwiches?( I want ones that won't fall apart when cut with a cookie cutter) .
anything else anyone wants to add would be great.
P.S. The girls who have RSVP so far are very excited, they are going to dress up in their favorite princess"tea" outfits. I'm going to give them little pretend rings and bracelet and necklaces and we're going to make our own tea hats.

I'm throwing a tea party luncheon for my neices (hats required:). How can I improve on this menu?
    Crustless sandwiches
    chocolate covered strawberries
    tea cakes
    Fruit salad

What kind of savory tart could I make to go with this?
And any other suggestions/ additions/ items I should remove?

    Thanks for your input!

    • ANSWER:
I have a recipe for a fruit salsa that you could try that is always a big hit at parties (in place of the fruit salad, of course):

      Fruit Salsa

      ½ pkg. strawberries
      3 kiwis
      2 bananas
      1 Tbsp. sugar
      1 Tbsp. Lime juice

-Cut tops off strawberries. Cut into small pieces. Mash with fork or chop with chopper (leaving some chunks…will be a salsa consistency). Place into a medium sized bowl and set aside. Peel bananas, slice, chop, and add to bowl. Peel kiwi, slice (save a slice or two for garnish ?), chop, and add to bowl. Add remaining ingredients and stir together. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes prior to serving.
*NOTE*: Best if prepared same day as served…No more than 5 hours prior to serving

      Chips:
      1 pkg. flour tortillas
Butter or Butter flavored non-stick cooking spray
      Cinnamon
      Sugar

-cut flour tortillas into desired shapes. Place one layer on a foil lined cookie sheet and heavily coat upper side with melted butter or non-stick spray. Sprinkle heavily with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle more cinnamon-sugar while hot.

When my grandmother would have tea parties with me, she always made muffins...blueberry and lemon poppyseed. They just seemed to fit!!

I don't know if the chocolate strawberries would be good, since you are talking about having a fruit salad (or hopefully fruit salsa ;) ) as well.

To go with the sandwiches, add a light side, like pasta salad or veggies and dip.

      Hope I helped! good luck!

All Rise for the English Tea Party

When thinking about tea parties, do you find yourself encumbered with thoughts of British gentry, Victorian décor, snippets of Alice in Wonderland and pinky fingers saluting fellow guests?

If so, you’re right and wrong. You’re right because as the tradition of afternoon tea has developed over hundreds of years, it has become an elegant affair. You’re also wrong because ‘High’ tea was often sipped by the British working class with their evening supper. A cup of tea is quintessentially engraved in our society and now the English tea party is making a come back.

There is no accurate record of the first tea party in the UK, but is reputed that Anna Russell, the seventh duchess of Bedford, introduced ‘afternoon tea’ to the western world in the early 19th century. At the time, the English only ate two main meals a day – a hearty breakfast and an enormous dinner. The duchess was lost between meals and this void in her day inspired her to prepare small snacks in between these meals, accompanied with a cup of tea!

During the late 1800’s, the concept travelled in to fine hotels; offering a tea service, or a tea party, in Tea Rooms and Tea Courts. Eminent Victorian ladies and their gentlemen would meet late afternoon for tea and socialising. Many of these gatherings became so reputable that certain members of the royal family and the famous would bless the parties with their presence in order to maintain social recognition.

By the early 1900’s, the majority of prestigious hotels in England, particularly London, began to host tea parties and dances, as dancing in the UK was fast becoming the new fad. The marriage of tea and socialising was now a happy and successful one – if you enjoyed your tea, savouring it in front of yours peers and acquaintances was now a necessity.

Fast forward a hundred years and the tradition and heritage of the tea party have been preserved. Today, it still brings people together; creating conversations and friendships and tea can be appreciated in a similar fashion. The resurgence of the tea party has added something different, more civilised and cultured, to the way we can socialise. It’s not all about binge drinking and conversations that lose out to ostentatious music.

It could be for these very reasons then, why the tea party is a popular alternative with celebrities and normal folk when entertaining. The most recent, high-profile tea party of the year was hosted by super model (and normally super-party animal) Kate Moss to celebrate her 34th birthday in January. The 1920’s themed ladies’ tea party provided afternoon tea to a glut of her celebrity friends in the Dorchester Hotel.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes also held a conspicuous tea party for their 18-month-old daughter, Suri, inside the Carlyle Hotel in New York, early this year. The interior was decorated with artwork from the Madeline series of children’s books as guests danced, nibbled on cakes and drank tea. A sight any photographer would have relished.

It isn’t just celebrities, however, who are enjoying their tea. This year has seen a number of UK-based charities encourage tea parties as the perfect way to raise money and awareness. Christian Aid embraced the art of tea parties by launching Tea Time 2008. More then 2,000 tea parties took place across the UK, as tea cups were raised in aid of tackling poverty around the globe.

Even the nation’s domestic animals are getting involved. In May this year, The Blue Cross launched the UK’s biggest tea party for pets! The event was supported by actor Martin Freeman and was joined by an assortment of tea-loving canines and cats at the prestigious Claridge’s in London. Backed by the UK Tea Council, the fundraising event was the first of its kind to combine the country’s passion for tea, animal welfare and tea sets – providing a large range of classic and contemporary tea pots and china.

With the revival of the tea party well under way and the country now clambering through their lofts and attics to discover the family’s treasured, but neglected tea set, there’s never a better time to put the kettle on.

One company that’s appreciating the recent furore and specialises in modern and classic tea sets is Cube Homewares – an online contemporary kitchen and homeware shop. Their range includes an Alice in Wonderland teapot, to authentic china tea sets.

“Things come and go in fashion but the one thing that remains quintessentially British and always in fashion is the good old fashioned cuppa,” says Cube Homewares. “How many times have you been abroad and said can’t wait to get home for a decent cup of tea! At Cube Homewares we have everything from mugs, teapots to tea sets – perfect for any tea party.”

So if you like a brew and you’re fond of a party, then the best thing to do is host a tea party. Telephone you’re friends and announce its Tea Time!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
If the tea parties were such a miserablre failure, then how come democrats are jumping ship on ObamaCare?
Obama has even "asked" the Republicans for their help. Problem is, the GOP already provided 800 items to the bill, and none got out of committee.

Anyway, blow your horn all you want liberals... Your democrats in congress are hearing the tea parties loud and clear!
    .

    • ANSWER:
The tea parties have been a success! I just got back from the largest most positive demonstration in Washington DC I have ever seen! The dems are jumping a sinking ship, as every one knows 0bamacare will down grade health care , tie up our government into an ever increasing debt, and become the reason for unseating anyone in congress who supports it

  2. QUESTION:
What do you think of the tea parties planned across the nation?
I'm upset about government spending, but that has been going on as long as I've been old enough to pay attention.

I want to protest, but I feel that the tea parties are more partisan. All parties are guilty of runaway spending.

Do you think the conditions are right for a tea party in the historical context? That is, do you think that the situation is somehow similar to the original Boston Tea Party?

    Thank you

    • ANSWER:
there is absolutely no similarity to the Boston Tea Party today.

  3. QUESTION:
Where were the tea parties during the Bush Administration?
If the tea parties are about reckless government spending why didn't they protest the War in Iraq, the Incomplete and useless border fence segments, or the no child left behind act?

    • ANSWER:
I am not a paranoid person. But anyone can see the reason behind these so called "tea parties" wasn't to protest taxes, only to show their unhappiness over having a black president. Read between the lines.

  4. QUESTION:
Do the Tea Parties oppose Obamacare and massive debt because Barney Frank is gay?
According to the media, the tea parties are mainly opposed to the Democrat takeover of health care, GM, Chrystler, student loans and a number of other things only because Barney Frank is gay and possibly because John Lewis is black.

Is opposing Obamacare now synonymous to burning a cross on a black church's lawn?

I can't think of any other reason to oppose a government takeover of healthcare.

    • ANSWER:
No. We oppose Obama Care and massive debt because it is wrong. We do not care about Barney Frank's personal life.

      DTG

  5. QUESTION:
Am I the only who is tired of all these questions about the tea parties and racism?
Why does the tea party hates blacks?
Why aren't any minorities in the the parties?
Where are the black tea partiers?
Why are the tea partiers so racist?

I have answered these questions and others which are similar over 20 times already,

There many videos on Youtube that show blacks, asians, young, people, old people, women at the tea parties.

Why can't the intelligent liberals go to Youtube or Google and search the videos instead of asking the same question over and over.

    • ANSWER:
I'm tired of them, too, and I don't even agree with the Tea Party. If the Tea Party is that wrong, you should be able to prove it through legitimate debate. Attempting to discredit them by constantly implying they are nothing but racist nut jobs is despicable. Liberals and conservatives constantly want to paint each other as low and underhanded, but they both rely on the same low and underhanded tactics to do it.

The Perfect Princess Tea Party - 7 Simple Steps

Can you think of anything more feminine, more lovely, and more "girly" than a group of young girls? Now picture them all dressed in their princess finery sitting down to a lovely decked out tea table with royal dainties. There you go! Girls across the globe love to dress up and love to have tea parties. So why not combine the two events and make the perfect afternoon for your wonderful girls - a Perfect Princess Tea Party!

Here are seven easy and inexpensive steps toward making the perfect memory for your little princess and her princess guests:

1. Set a date: Keep in mind the ages of your little ones and set the time when they will not be too tired, too hungry or too cranky! The "official" teatime is late afternoon, but that does not mean you cannot have a wonderful teatime in the morning hours as well.

2. Invite the guests: The fun begins right at the start with the invitation. Having the perfect princess tea party requires invitations of the most royal kind. Lovely linen paper is very easy to find at your local craft or office supply store. Run the specialty paper through your home printer with a fancy script font, fold and send off to the guests. Send the invitations out about two to three weeks before your tea party so your guests can plan accordingly.

3. Decorate: Make your home a castle! Let your princess help with this part. After all, it is HER event. Royal colors include purple, gold, pink and silver and aren't those the favorites of all girls anyway? Make sure you have balloons, glitter, streamers and even more balloons! We will talk specifically about decorating the tea table in a bit.

4. Make the princess food: Traditional tea fare includes scones and clotted cream. Other royal tea treats are chocolate covered strawberries, thumbprint cookies, cucumber sandwiches (or substitute the ever popular peanut butter and jelly sandwich for younger ones) and miniature teacakes. More details on tea party food can be found on our website.

5. Set the royal table: Make sure you go all out here. Use a lovely tablecloth, cloth napkins and real teacups not plastic toy kind. Not only will this be fun for your little ones, but it will be a great lesson in etiquette as well as they learn to put on their finest manners for your tea.

6. Plan some games: Great princess games abound but keep it simple. Hide some gold-foiled covered coins around the house and have a hunt to return the royal treasure. Use a lovely glass bowl as the treasure chest. Spread your gold and silver balloons all over the "ballroom" floor and play classical music for a royal ball with much dancing.

7. Enjoy the special day: Most of all make it fun. Take many pictures and record the memories. Your little princess will go to bed that night smiling from ear to ear with the joy of the day!

Fairy Bread is just buttered sliced bread topped with hundreds and thousand's sprinkles. If you want to make it a little more fancy you can cut the bread in to shapes with a cookie cutter.

fairy Bread, is bright, colourfull and sugary... perfect for kids party's!

  4. QUESTION:
How do you have an old fashioned tea party? I'm looking for game and food ideas?
I'm having a tea party in a couple weeks. What kind of things do you do at a tea party, and what food is popular, inexpensive, and easy to make? I already have the general idea of a tea party, but it's not enough!

    • ANSWER:
Dress up, with long white gloves, hats and all (or close to that)
Have tiered trays of little cakes, cucumber sandwiches (triangles)
and possibly grapes or other seasonal small fruit, small light wafer crackers, cheese cubes
Make sure you have a variety of assorted teas for your company to enjoy (Actual Lemonaid for the younger females)
Lemons, Sugar and for the true English flair cream or milk
One option that we did is even though you may have plenty of tea cups, others do to and would be proud to show them off, so suggest that they bring their favorite and have a story to tell how they received/purchased the cup and why. It's not mandatory and you can offer a story to the ladies whom you have loaned a cup to. Give a small very inexpensive gift (bath oil beads, fragrant soap, small candle) for the favorite/unique answer.
As for the rest of the time; Play cards (pinochle is fun if most know how to play), have a local charity or prominent friend (if available) give a quick informative talk, will give you a conversation starter for the group if unknown to each other. Piano player, if you have both piano and one who plays, light music in background, usually classical, small talk, don't do too much gossiping it usually backfires. Then just sit back and go with the flow. Have fun! P.S. If it is just too hot for hot tea, iced tea is fine and you can make an Arnold Palmer by using half iced tea and half lemonaid as an option.

  5. QUESTION:
WhaI am throwing an afternoon tea birthday party. What food should there be and how tot would you like to ask?
I thought to add scone with cream and jam but how to make it?
Obviously, there will be a chocolate birthday cake.
I thought of sandwiches. My friend (birthday person) is vegetarian and does not eat egg too. Others are non-veg. Does tuna with cucumber and cheese and ????
Any other sandwich ideas? I only want to make 3 types of sandwiches,

What other food can be there?

Of course there will be tea and other hot drinks and elderberry presse.
The party will not be big, just few very good friends.

    • ANSWER:
Luluchic, as for your vegetarian friend, you can make salad sandwiches, you can use avocado as the base spread. Again the cucumber, cheese, tuna, you can use the avocado spread also. You may have to make more than three types of sandwiches, because you have vegetarian and non vegetarian.

The scone, cream and jam is a top solution also.

The Tea Party Revolution

Mad Hatter’s Online Shopping For The Tea Party

I have been spending numerous times on the net these days because I just cannot decide which things to get in preparation for my friend's bridal shower that I shall be hosting. It is the least I could do for my friend who will soon become a bride and this is the only kind of gift that I could think of that she is going to be capable to remember forever. I tried to talk to her less due to the fact I preferred to make it a bit extra unique. I do not want to make it seem like something that she decided on since it will be my gift for her anyway so I am in control.

The first thing that I've been deciding on is what theme to use for the bridal shower that I am throwing for her. She is a very comical and hilarious person so why not go with a tea party similar to the Mad Hatter from Alice In Wonderland?

Food should not be a problem since it's just going to be a tea party. Heart tarts, chocolate cupcakes with cherry on top, cookies with jelly frosting and chocolate-dipped strawberries and cherries should do the trick. If they come craving for something salty, I can come up with a few sandwiches and pizza bites, too. As for the drinks, basically tea, coffee, hot or cold chocolate and fresh fruit juices should do the trick. OF course, I won't forget to include the tags "Drink me!" and "Eat me!" on food and drinks to make it look more genuine as is in the movie.

The fancy teacups, teapots, plates, table cloth, paper lanterns and flowers will complete the entire Mad Hatter's Tea Party-themed bridal shower. Needless to say, anyone should come in their particular craziest hat. The crazier and sillier, the better. I still do not know if I am going to be providing the bride-to-be that has a crazy hat or maybe I should just ask her to come in her craziest hat at the same time. She isn't going to have any idea what model of bridal shower I'm throwing for her so this one must be a blast.

Only to make sure that the facts do not leak out to her, I did not tell any of the guests who will be attending the tea party with regards to my plans. Sometimes, as much as I want our other friends to support me out with this but I just can't help to keep it to myself because I've the demand to surprise my friends particularly the soon-to-be-bride even just this as soon as.

I've nearly completed my list of things to do and what to get. The only thing left to do is to go shopping for them. I find the World Wide Web extremely useful and helpful in finding the motif that I want for my surprise tea party/bridal shower for my friend. I even got the recipes of the cookies plus the other snacks that I will likely be generating from diverse internet sites to be capable to come up with just one, massive occasion. As for purchasing the stuff I desire, I'd rather do it simply by foot to make sure that almost everything turns out nearly perfect than I planned.
